Ganapathi Baba Morya

And the ten day long Ganapathi festival finally comes to an end!
The larger community images will be taken for immersion in the evening, each accompanied by so many people that whole roads will be closed to traffic so they can move without hindrance.

On hearing the trademark notes of the band accompanying the procession, people will throng the streets to catch a glimpse of the idols. Kids

On the beach, men will carry the idol far into the sea to bid goodbye. Ganpati Baba Morya! Pudcha varshi laukarya! Come back again, next year.

And the band will go home.

I love these snippets of life from India. You're making me feel like I'm there. And sometimes, it's nice to escape! :)

I'm wondering how, at age 60, I'm so culturally ignorant about India. I apologize. But, if you'll let me hang around, I can fix that shortcoming.

@ Elizabeth - that's just what I think about my country. It is a place you escape to, to escape from where you actually are.Maybe that is why we have so many festivals!

@ Galen - like the envelope said to the stamp "stick on to me baby, and we'll go places". You can at least come to India vicariously.
