Abla nari, a voluptuous woman

Abla nari. A voluptuous woman. A woman in prime child-bearing years.

Her breasts inspire lust; her breasts can feed a brood of hungry children. Her slender waist and full hips can sway seductively, even with a child balanced on them.

A woman who men covert, a woman who men want to possess. A woman who’s chastity is preserved by keeping her locked away.

Why should a woman be subject to such contradictions? Why can’t she be just a person? Does she have to be an object of desire, or a subject of subjugation?

Abla nari, will you ever break free?

There are words, and there are words. Some words can be easily translated, others need to be described.  In April, I’ll attempt to capture the Soul of 26 'Indian' words in a  drabble of exactly 100 words.

I'm glad you're back with the Challenge. I so enjoy all your drabbles. It was last year's challenge that introduced me to them. Good start!

So true! We need to keep working to make sure each person is allowed a free and healthy life!

Natasha - What a powerful reminder that after all, we are people - human beings. And thank you for teaching me what abla nari is. What a wonderful idea for the A-Z theme.

Hi, Rayna
Yes, life is full of strange contradictions, isn't it? A woman is probably one of the most nuanced humans. A person first, with a big old brain!
I'm doing the A to Z challenge too. Hopefully, you'll stop by soon. I'm #672, at Catherine Stine's Idea City.
Cheers! Catherine

This is a great idea. I was amazed to see you also doing the A to Z at Snapshots of Bombay. You are taking the challenge seriously.

Wonderful post. I'm sure that one day will come soon if not eventually. It's worth the wait.
