We did one of our girlie lunches the other day. Four ‘knocking on the gates of 40’ mothers who had gone to school together all those years ago. We had half an hour to wait before the fifth turned up, and since we did not want to test our friendship to the extent of going into a restaurant and restraining ourselves from falling over the food, we had to find other ways of killing time.
We strolled into a boutique next to the restaurant we were going to have lunch in. Some of the stuff was extremely wearable, and one of us tried it on before deciding it made her look like a balloon.
When and how we graduated to clothes we would not be caught dead in, I am not sure, but pretty soon, we were in and out of the changing room trying on the most unsuitable and impractical clothes. Halter neck blouses, tube tops, mini dresses. Dresses cut low and dresses cut hit.
We could barely squeeze ourselves into many of the clothes, but we had a lot of giggles while trying to do so. We were obviously not going to buy anything, but it was fun.
“At our age, I’d rather wear clothes I look good in, than clothes that look good”, one of us muttered as we strolled out. Even the owner had to smile at our spirit.
It is nice to have friends you can have pointless fun with, isn’t it? Would my life have been as full if I hadn’t signed up for a Facebook account?

Who designs these clothes, is what I want to know! You'd think there'd be something stylish that looks good on women who've had a couple of children...
Glad you and your friends had so much fun. Facebook is a great tool for reconnecting.

what fun! I think that I'm one of those women who hasn't quite figured out age appropriate clothing though. I like mini-skirts and so on...
I think it sounds like a GREAT time, Natasha!
Elizabeth-I'm with you in thinking someone ought to be able to get it right!
Jan, if you have the legs for it, GO FOR the miniskirts!
When I am at a better weight I favor those halters myself--I like exposed arms and back (not NOW, but that is temporary!)
What a fun time you must have had! Facebook has been responsible for me reconnecting with many friends which is wonderful. Girlfriends; there's no substitute!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. And yes, it is great fun just being silly with friends.
I have the same issues with Facebook. Yes, it is a great way of reconnecting but it is also the best procrastination tool.
@ Elizabeth - pathetic, isn't it? All I want are clothes that look nice, fit me well, and are age appropriate (don't want to look like a confused teen, nor like what is the common perception of a dumpy grandma) - and I want those clothes from now till the end of my days. Asking for too much, I guess!
@ Jan - I second Tami - what is wrong with miniskirts, as long as you feel good in them? By age appropriate, I meant things that don't scream out "I am 20 and I am beautiful. Look at me". Even when I was 20, I was more of a 'I dress in what I feel good in" person.
@ Tami - I've seen that school re-union photograph of yours, and you look fantastic in that. Waiting till you get that body back!!!
@ Elspeth - I totally agree. It takes a girl to understand another girl.
@ Chary - it is, isn't it? I had all you guys to be silly with online, but in real life, it is only now that I have found the right people. Worth the wait!
