On Arithmetic

December 2010

"If you have three apples, and your brother has four, how many apples do you have altogether?"
Long silence, then a tentative, "Is it a multiplication problem?"

I was devastated when I discovered that my second grader couldn't even do basic arithmetic. How would he survive without being able to add and subtract? We started with the basics- 2+2=4!

March 2011
"This box has ten chocolates. How many will we get if we share equally?"
"We will get three chocolates, and there will be one left over for Papa."

Once you get the basics right, isn't everything fun?
_____
drabble is a story told in exactly 100 words.

Anybody who has been following my blog would know that the only way I can find time for all the things I need to do, would be for the day to have more hours. Blogging is the one of the things that I am contemplating dropping till I can get my life back on track.
But I do have fond memories of last year's A to Z Challenge, and since I've already signed up for this year's edition, I am going to play along as long as I can, and drop out when it gets too difficult.
And here's last year's post - A for April
Happy reading! Cheers.

Loved the drabbles. I sincerely hope you do get your life on track. we all need to sit and reflect on life from time to time.
I hope you can continue with the challenge as you are an asset.

Natasha - What a great soul your son has ("One left over for Papa") - I love it! And a very clever way to start the ABC challenge :-).

Hi, Rayna, I've missed reading your posts...I, too, have been quite busy and my husband passed away in July of last year, so things have been a little difficult. I will try to come back and visit as I am trying to read a lot of blogs this month. It is a crying shame that so many children have difficulty learning math. I think in the early years the schools should just concentrate on teaching the three "R"s Reading, WRiting and Arithmetic.

You never miss a day blogging. If you start to blog less often I am sure that you may find time now and then. You might have withdrawals. haha! You know I support you whatever you decide, but then I hope we find other ways to keep up communication.

As for math, I don't go far beyond basic...LOL!

Glad you're joining the challenge again this year. I've been in a bit of a blogging drought myself and am looking to re-energize through the A-Z challenge!

Blessings to you Rayna!

I love your drabbles, but family and health comes first. If you need a rest, I will understand and will welcome you back with open arms when you find the time.

Good luck my friend,

We will miss your wisdom, but I understand. I've been cutting back on my blogging as well.... my husband just had knee surgery and it has been quite a difficult task to keep up with everything. I wish you the best.

Having put my kids in Montessori, I thot that was the end of my involvement in their education :( But Nivi looks as blank as Rayan did, and she reminded me of myself! So had to scurry and get her interested in numbers...Can see the diff.

Hello my friend,
I've sure missed reading your insights everyday. I was at that place too, thinking about putting blogging on hold for a while, but this AZ challenge revived my drive. I want to thank you for that, because it was through you, then Alex J. Cavenaugh that I found it. I don't have nearly as much time for this as I used to (take), but I'll take what I can get. Know this, every time I come here, I'm reminded of why you're on my short list of "gotta read" blogs, so if I'm not here, you know I'm not going anywhere ;-) I've learned so much from you and your transparent thoughts and your amazing photography. One of these days I'll get brave and post the award you shared with me. That was a wonderful gift.
In blogging friendship,
Tina @ Life is Good
