The Tree is Up, or was

"Are you sure you want the tree up today? Can't we do it tomorrow when you are less sleepy."
"How do you expect me to string the lights if you keep pushing my elbows?"
"The tree is not very steady. Can't we wait till tomorrow and get a better base?"
"Don't load all the ornaments on one side. The tree may collapse."
"The youngest in the family gets to place the star. Who's the youngest?" "Well, never mind. Papa's not helped. He can place the star."
"Stand back while I turn on the lights."

"Please don't touch...." CRASH "...the tree."

It will be a funny story in 10 years time. Honestly, take it from one who knows!

Rayna - Now that is a true, honest and authentic holiday story. I'm sorry things went wrong, but trust me from those kinds of experiences, it will make your family closer.

Wonderful, Rayna.

What goes up must come down - but perhaps not so soon :D

Oh, no! I've only had that happen once, and that was because one of us (not me, of course) didn't tighten all of the screws in the holder. What a mess! I hope none of your decorations were broken.

Rayna - You will speak of this every year and laugh harder each time. I know from experience.

SO CUTE!!!!!!!! :) I can't imagine what Xmas is like in Bombay. I've seen it in Delhi and in Chennai, but never in such a metropolitan city. Post lots of pics!

Aw, but it will make a great story for the grandkids!

Lovable family story Rayna. You ( and perhaps we too) will remember this for years to come.

Btw there's a quiz over at my blog. I made reference to you too, hope you don't mind.

@ Ann - not sure if it would be a story- when something happens every year, it is not really story material, is it?

@ Margot- ah well, that could be the story of what happened yeasterday, or my story of Christmas traditions. Why I continue putting up a tree is beyond me.

@ Fiona - it is, isn't it?

@ Elspeth - thank you

@ Dorte - that's a very positive way of looking at it ;-)

@ Patricia - decorations are all safe- I buy only unbreakable ones, not because of the kids, but because I don't trust myself to store them properly.

@ P@ul@mi - lol

@ Mary - yes, someday, when the kids learn to behave around the tree, it would make for a good story.

@ Priya - will post up my favourite picture of X-mas in Bombay soon. But I would think it is not too different from Christmas in either Delhi or Chennai.

@ Alex - unless the grandkids inherit their genes!

@ Grandpa - thank you for the mention. And yes, with 24 hours between that and now, it is already funny.

@ Jules - dogs may just be a bit worse. Or cats!

@ SueAnn- I do, don't I? Want to watch my kids over the weekend?

Memories arrive in all forms, this one will be funny, next year, when you honor your traditions! Your children are so cute~

@ Anu- looking at your photographs, I would think S is the most well behaved kid ever.

@ Ellen - when they are older, I am going to take pleasure in reminding them of this every Christmas.
