Some relationships are fragile. Both parties waiting to misunderstand and to be misunderstood. You care for the other person, yet set them off without realizing how. You try to convince yourself you are the long suffering martyr in the relationship, but know that the other person thinks the same too. Relationships where you are scared of hurting the other person, and yet, despite your best intentions, end up doing just that.... always.

They are fragile, yet precious. Relationships worth keeping. Relationships where the cracks, now mended, become a part of the whole. And yet, you know there will be more.
This Drabble and many more are a part of the Annual Advent Calendar at the Burrow.
A drabble a day, everyday to provide some respite from the madness that is December. Do check it out

A drabble is a story told in exactly 100 words.

This is incredible in it's depth-and sad in it's truth. Relationships are so here you said things I did indeed think I only thought, and that is a great gift-to appeal to people like that. :)

This is so deep and so true. Some relationships are best left at a distance.

Beautiful, thankyou.

I try to remember that most people aren't deliberately hurtful, and that those comments that seem barbed are simply a matter of poorly chosen words, and not set to deliberately wound. I hope the other person has the grace to do the same for me when I seem to put my foot in my mouth, and the words come out all wrong.

@ Oddyoddyo13 - I have these weird relationships which I want to keep, but which are so fragile.
And I am sure you and I are not the only ones who struggle with relationships like this one.

@ Mary - and yet, you know the people cannot really help themselves, and you do care for them. So you open yourself up to being hurt yet again.

@ Leigh - thank you.
And your comment says it all.

@ Sue - exactly. Some people just cannot help it. They are made prickly, and they are made slightly insensitive. And yet, they are people who you love, and you want to keep the relationship going.
