Fear

Five weeks back, in a crowded market, I had been shoved against the traffic and had got burnt by the exhaust pipe of a motocycle. Home treated for a couple of days, the pain from the burn had been almost unbearable. For weeks, I lived with the pain. For weeks I was paranoid about someone hitting against me and opening up the wound. For weeks, I had to wear clothes that kept the wound exposed.

The wound has now healed. All that is left is a rather ugly scar. But the sight of a motorcycle still fills me with fear.

That’s horrible. I’ve seen burns just like the one you got and they are nasty. The people in pain for weeks. I’m glad it’s healed. I complelety understand the fear of it happening again.

Oh my goodness, how awful! With my husbands work (firefighter) he sees people go through these injuries much too often, and he says burns are some of the most painful injuries. Get better soon.

Yikes! I burnt myself on a scooter in college and burns like that really are painful!! The worst burn I experienced was when I stepped (yes STEPPED!) on a red hot coal as a child and couldn't walk for several days- maybe a week. I completely feel your pain. (hmmm.. I must be clumsier than even I thought as I have just listed two burn experiences in a very short comment to you...)

Hurts just thinking about it!
Don't fear it, though. Think of the incident like lightning - what are the odds it'll strike twice?

I just burnt my finger while draining pasta. That sucker HURT...and yet it's just a minor burn so I'm CRINGING at the thought of a severe one like that.

The one time I rode solo on a bike, I flipped over the handlbars and twisted my ankle. Needless to say, I've never been on one since! So I understand your fear.

I wouldn't like to confess to the number of times I've picked up the heat defuser from the stovetop with my bare fingers, and the pain is horrible. I can't imagine how bad yours was.

I hope your fear heals with time the same as your body has.

Keep safe.

How terrible, burns are awful.
One of my school friends was riding a motorbike with her younger sister on the back.
They hit a muddy piece of track and came off. Kathy's leg fell across the exhaust pipe, but to compound the problem her sister fell across the leg pressing it against the hot metal.
Poor Kathy was away from school for some time and even when she returned she was on crutches for five or six weeks more.

So sorry to hear about the burn. I can understand your fear of motorcycles. It's unbelievable how hot those pipes get. Hopefully the scar will go away in time as will your fear.

Sounds terrible. I too would be terrified of motorbikes...

Burns are so terrible! I am so sorry that you have had to endure this pain!! I would be very nervous and fearful on the street again as well.
I hope the scar fades to nothing as well as your fears!
Be well!

@ Debra - well, lesson learnt. Stay away from two wheelers of the non pedal kind.

@ Holly - I never thought it could be that bad, but it was. And it LOOKED horrible too.

@ Julie - that must be one of the most difficult professions of them all.

@ Danette - we have clumsiness in common, I can see!!! I categorise accidents into two- those that are caused because I was careless, and those that happen because I am around.

@ Alex - and I am going to stay far away from them in future.

@ Vicki - burns are nasty things, aren't they? According to my doctor, they are the most painful of injuries.

@ Diane - ouch. That sounds much worse than what happened to me.

@ Sue - I do that all the time too! Which probably is why I neglected my burn for as long as I did- I am used to burns that get better with minimal effort (and lots of pain).

@ Al - that sounds absolutely horrible.

@ Mason - I do hope the fear goes away too, but I suspect it is going to take a long time.

@ Clarissa - but then, better safe than burnt.

@ Fiona - you would, wouldn't you?

@ SueAnn- thank you. And I do hope it fades too.

I hope you are alright now.

@ Dipali - totally. Except for a huge scar on my leg which I couldn't be too bothered about. Thanks
