Can't people Read?

Most people know that I don't do forwards, but there is one person I keep getting stuff from- often neither funny, nor thought-provoking. Sometimes, she forwards back to me things I sent her, and once she's even forwarded a blog post of MINE to me.

But yesterday, she surpassed herself. She sent, with a ringing endorsement, a vile and racist denouement of Indians. I read it three times to see if I was missing the sarcasm- I wasn't. To me, circulating the mail was tantamount to treason!

Is it too much to expect people to read stuff before forwarding it?

Yikes! That's pretty bizarre. I don't do the email forwarding game either. Life is busy enough without it. I can't believe someone would be that insensitive or unaware or ???? Maybe time to block the sender.

Rayna - I'm sorry that happened to you. To me, it's a reflection on people's tendency sometimes to not think. Sometimes people get so rushed and and life urges us to do more and more that we don't take time to just think. Regardless of this woman's opinion, she should have thought about the consequences of sending that Email on.

Please, please tell me to wrote her back.

@ Jemi - I am just going to delete all the mails I get from her from now on. My mother is also on her mailing list, so I can rely on her to forward me the stuff that I may not want to miss.

@ Margot - it is ridiculous, isn't it? Why would anyone want to forward everything they get to everyone they know without even reading it? And in this case, sheh forwarded it with a ringing endorsement when I know she would not agree with it at all.

@ Holly - no, I didn't. Not sure I would do so either. For all you know, my reply will just end up being forwarded to everyone on her list!

How rude! Maybe you should let her know.
And that's why I NEVER forward anything.

That's horrible. I never read forwards but it just shows what kind of person she is that she would pass racist things on.

I'm also in the "I don't do forwards". On rare occasion, when I find some gem, I'll write a regular email, and include the link. To one or two people who share my sense of humor. My inbox gets crammed with stupid forwards, and even though I've personally told each sender to take me off the list, they don't. The ones I especially hate are the "pray this right now or there's going to be trouble". I resent having my faith blackmailed.
And thank you for your kind support regarding my hip. It's so comforting to know that people care. :-)

It sounds like time for an email rule that just deletes the email without you having to waste time even looking at it.

If something really tickles me, or is particularly interesting, there are a couple of people to whom I will forward it.

But I'm not interested in just being a relay station for email - and don't wish to read emails from people who behave that way. There is already too much spam in the world.

And no, I cannot imagine forwarding something I had clearly not read. That's just rude.

WHAT? Is this a friend? How strange.

I don't even bother forwarding things. Half the time I don't even read forwards!

No. It is NOT too much to ask for people to read.

I agree wholeheartedly with the comments above, but I also would want to ask her her motives. Then get around to saying how perplexed/hurt/insulted/confused you were by this one in particular. It's really bizarre, but her motives could be interesting.

If she's sending rascist stuff to you then she's spreading it to others, and that is plain bad form, and she needs to know.

Rayna,
Sorry, this is upsetting n' maddening! No, people seem to think email jokes are some type of chain letter. They need to be passed quickly and no consideration for anyone, just as many emails as you can come up with. I don't get it~

I too question if this is a true friend? I very rarely open forwards or read them at all. I just delete them. They really are a nuisance.
Sorry you had to experience this.
Hugging you

Rayna - So sorry this happened. My brother is guilty of this type thing -- forwarding without reading. I told him, didn't ask, to take me out of his contacts and only write letters to me from him directly.
We don't share the same view on a good many things.

That is awful! A brusque e-mail to the person would be in order?

@ Alex - I've just marked her as spam. If she has something to say to me, too bad!

@ Clarissa - shouldn't you at least read what you forward before you do?

@ Tina - I do much the same thing. When I do find something worth sharing, I do so but only with people I know are going to appreciate it.

@ KjM - I have half a mind to set up a rule where all mails which are forwarded to more than 5 people gets deleted automatically. BUT, I may end up missing something important so it is easier to just delete

@ Julie - YES! Can you image anything worse?

@ Sue - something tells me she rates her popularity by the number of people she forwards stuff to.

@ Ellen - It didn't upset me as much as me being perplexed by her stupidity.

@ SueAnn- I don't think she even knows, and I am definitely not telling her. She deserves what she gets.

@ Mary - that is really sad. If it were a brother, I would be much more hurt.

@ Fiona - I ignored it, and have put her mail as spam.
