“What are you planning to give me for Mothers’ Day?”, I asked me six year old the other day.
“What do you want?”, he asked.
“Why don’t you give me a surprise”, I replied. “You and Papa can discuss what you want to give me.”
“Okay.”
Half an hour later, he returned with a laboriously written note. “We have decided to give Mamma a diamond necklace for Mothers’ Day’, it said. His eyes were gleaming with the pleasure he knew he was giving me.
“Thank you so much, darling”, I said giving him a hug. “But I don’t really want a diamond necklace.”
“But I want to give you one”, he said.
“I’m never going to wear a diamond necklace”, I assured him. “Tell you what. Why don’t you draw a beautiful picture of me wearing a diamond necklace. I would like that more than a diamond necklace.”
“Okay.”
The picture never got drawn. There was no further talk of diamond necklaces. Both kids forgot even to wish me on Mothers’ Day. But I couldn’t care less.
Being a mother to two wonderful kids is the best gift anyone could ask for. To be honest, I don’t really want too much more.

Such a lovely photograph! Your sons are so sweet.
Our children are our true jewels, aren't they?
Sweet photo. You do have diamonds (two of them) already that will outshine and outlast anything you could ever wear. They're adorable.

How sweet and I love your attitude of gratitude.
Our boys are indeed gift enough. Happy Mother's Day!
Hugs,
Lisa
Aw, that's so sweet! I agree. I would rather have the picture too.
My nine year old daughter made me 'coupons' for Mother's Day. They are good for various functions, like helping wash dishes, going to bed early, etc, but the one that touched me most was the one that said, "I will play outside when you want to write." Of course, I told her I'd redeem it on a rainy day. lol.
You should have gone for the diamond necklace. You could have pawned it later.
You are too sweet! And I'd take a picture instead of the necklace any day form my kids. Unless my hubbie asks if I'd rather have a picture of a dinner instead of taking me out once in a blue moon... ha ha.
Beautiful children you have, they are a credit to you. Your story reminded me of when my youngest son was about 5 yrs, it was my birthday so he went to the shops to buy me a present, He came back all excited gave me a hug and said for you mum with love, I opened the bag a found.....a scouring pad to clean saucepans.
That present meant such alot because of what he said. Like you I don't wish for much, just my families love.
Have a wonderful day.
Yvonne.
Your kids are awesome - and so cute!
As they say, it's the thought that counts.
Awww, you are such a good mama! Thanks for sharing your darling photo with us - your boys are adorable! :-)
Oh my goodness! How perfectly adorable they are! And what a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing.
My son wanted to get me a helicopter. Then he wanted to get me a transformer. Then he decided on macaroni&cheese...but since my daughter wanted to give me a necklace, my husband combined they two and they each made me a macaroni necklace!
It isn't the gifts, it's the children. You are so right!

Little ones are precious on mother's day - and all other days too :)
Mine are older and I got a fabulous bbq dinner! :)
It's the thought that counts and of course the joy their love and laughter surrounds you with.
aww what a beautiful photo :o) Mine always wrap up their special toys to give to me. hehe
At least they remembered the day before right? Not long before they will remember all on their own. I have my Bella to remind all the others. Your older one will be reminding his little brother soon enough.
Cute story, picture, and the diamond necklace was a sweet thought. Mother's Day is nice, but it is only one day - being surrounded by your loving little boys year round more than makes up for it.
Your boys are so cute and yes, they're better than any gift you could get.

I wonder who thought of the diamond necklace? Your boys sure have rich tastes. That will come in handy someday...and what a cute picture.
PS, thanks for visiting my blog. It is nice to find another friend.
Hello Rayna
Those are two very mischeivous looking boys you have there - with their looks I'd say there will be some broken hearts when they are much older lol
Is Mothers Day celbrated in a big commercial way in India - or do you have your own special holidays? Those little drawings and handmade gifts are the things I have kept after all these years - they remind me of the special simple type of love children have when they are younger.
Take care
Cathy
@ dipali- absolutely. With them in our lives, who needs diamonds?
@ Mason - couldn't agree more.
@ Lisa - someone said, "you become a mother only after you give birth". Quite true.
@ Mary - your daughter is so sweet. That is something I would love to have.
@ Debra - that is an idea ;-)
@ Lydia - the hubby had better take you out to dinner. What would one do with a photograph of a dinner.
@ Yvonne - amazing. And he must have thougth he was giving you something you would reallly cherish. did you ever use it?
@ Diane - they are, aren't they?
@ Alex - it is.
@ Shannon - thank you. And they are a bundle of mischief, but I wouldn't want it otherwise
@ Michele - they are cute, aren't they? And your husband is a smart man! Bet you wore that with pride.
@ Jemi - maybe some day I will too.... Bet you had a great time.
@ Ann - absolutely
@ Niki - and mine picked out a puzzle each as their Mothers' Day gift!!!
@ Marjorie - Isn't it wonderful that Bella reminds the others? How fast kids grow!
@ Jane - I wouldn't swap that for anything
@ Clarissa - they are.
@ Jane - I think they saw it on TV!
@ Cathy - they are naughtier than they look, which is what I love so much about them. And I bet you really treasure all those gifts.
I heartily agree. And your boys have diamonds twinkling in their eyes!
I would have loved that picture myself! I miss those days! I still have many of my "gifts" to remind me of my sweet little boy.
Glad you enjoyed your day.
Hugs
SueAnn
That's a terrific looking family you've got there. Great idea to have the kids draw a picture of you wearing diamonds. Much more economical too. Have a great week.

Ah, great post. I love the picture! Reminds me of everything that's fun and sweet about being a mom.
oh so cute! the pic looks so nice.. your kids are sweet!
@ Fiona - they do, don't they. And unlike real diamonds, these are priceless.
@ SueAnn - bet you treasure them more than you would have a diamond necklace.
@ Stephen - thank you. Considering I may never have worn those diamonds, it makes sense not taking them up on the offer.
@ Zoe - being a mom is quite the most wonderful thing in the world, isn't it? Though if someone had told me that ten years back, I would have probably laughed at them.
@ Doli - thank you.
