“Stay indoors when you can, and avoid being alone in public
places after 8 pm”, the police officially tells women. “If you do not, we are
not responsible for your safety”, is left unsaid. Isn’t it much easier to curb
the basic freedom of women, than to do increase safety in public places?
Kites symbolize freedom. Kites are traditionally flown on
Makar Sankranti to mark the beginning of the harvest season, the start of
plenty. Kites no longer sport geometric patterns- they are adorned with
photographs of Bollywood actresses.
Is it only in the skies that women can fly free?

This awful...sounds like the kites symbolize the freedom that women would like to have. Sad!!

This kind of comment always makes me angry. Just like, "But she was wearing a short skirt, she had it coming!" and such. Makes me want to teach other women to hit and kick really hard, and use their teeth. We cannot avoid men attacking us, but surely we can make them regret choosing us as their targets.
