On Zero

"Mamma, what's your favourite number?"
"Six", I nearly said automatically, then corrected myself. "Zero!"
"But Zero is not even a number."
"Of course it is- it is the most powerful number."
"But you can't count zero."
"So what? Zero can consume any number- if you multiply even the largest number by Zero, you get Zero. And if you divide even the smallest number by Zero, you get the biggest number ever. And, mathematics as you know it is there only because of Zero."

Six will always be my lucky number, but Zero is what has got us where we are.

_____
drabble is a story told in exactly 100 words.

Life was different when I signed up for the second session of "A to Z Blog Challenge". Throughout March, I was sure I would not be able to do it. But I am glad I did. It was fun coming up with a drabble a day, everyday (except Sundays).
Unfortunately, I haven't had time to visit any of your wonderful blogs, but I will come around sooner rather than later. Thank you!
Last year, it was Z for Zzzzzz

Rayna, congratulations, it's been a challenge all right! I'm impressed you started, stayed and finished. You seemed worn out beforehand, but sound so positive now. You're an inspiration, and I enjoy dropping by to be challenged, to weep and despair about the state of your/our world, but also to hear some wonderfully positive stories. It's been good, but I'm glad it's over. Sue

Congrats on finishing the challenge! Love this story about the overlooked number zero.

Zero is cool, so is six but mathematically in my opinion there is nothing that beats 9! loved your post, as usual.

Do you remember that very old Hindi film song about numbers? Geeta Dutt sings it here:http://www.mp3ster.com/video/QOX-5c57gA0/Ek_Do_Teen_Chaar_Aur_Paanch_Geeta_Dutt.html

Believe it or not, Rayna, I finally put up the Sunshine Award you gave me
last year, yesterday. Thank you once again, and profound apologies for my tardiness.

That is a very cute dialogue, Rayna. Six is our lucky number, so let's keep it a safe distance from zero in any multiplication tables.
