On Travelling

A friend's explanation for posting only eight photographs after a dream vacation was simple. "I like to experience a place completely", she said. "The moment I take my camera out, I lose that."
I am her polar opposite. Every picture takes me back in time. I can smell, hear and feel what I was experiencing at the moment when I took it.
Another friend is going all the way to Russia, and spending ten days exploring just two cities. She doesn't want to just do the sights- she wants to live them.
Isn't that the whole point of travelling? Experiencing!

I love this picture.
With your pictures and words I "feel" where you are.

I'm with you. Experience it, and document it with photographs, a visual learner's best friend. :-)

...and I, for one, am very glad you to take as many 'photos as you do, so that you can share those experiences, Natasha. I agree that traveling is for experiencing and really savouring that experience :-).

I'm not into taking a lot of photos, but I do want to see as much as possible!

And that reminds me...I'm almost out of yellow curry...found a great online source for spices we use frequently, wholespice.com. Ground to order. Reasonably priced. I cook a lot of Thai and Vietnamese food. I've had Indian in restaurants, but have never tried it at home. Do you have an easy recipe you'd be willing to share?

The trick is to find the happy medium!

YES! I love experiencing other cultures and getting off the beaten path. But I do understand your friend's point. Esp. when it comes to the children's programs. I'm always asked to film them for out of town family, but I feel like I miss it keeping up with the camera.

sigh.

The happy medium. Yep, that's it~ :o) <3

Rayna, I agree with your first point, when I go to Fiji in June I am taking LOTS of pictures. I even bought a new camera for the trip. Me topside, my wife shooting underwater. Should be a well rounded trip. Second point, I am planning on doing the same thing...I am not visiting, I am living it for the 9 days I am there. Thanks for a great post.

It works both ways. The days when we would see pictures on printed paper had us focussing better on the visuals. With seeing them as we click along, the effect is not nearly the same.

One option would be to photograph, but selectively, for moments that really matter instead of running up on 1 GB in a matter of hours.

I find it hard to get the right balance, but love looking through old photos.

I never take pictures when I travel for the same reason - I find it distracting. BUT, the second I get home and the excited feelings start to fade, I kick myself for not having kept a record of it.
One of my little life regrets.
