One more chore

Watering plants has now become a chore. It should not be, but it is. I grudge my plants the time I need to spend watering them- when you are rushing to work, the last thing you need is one more thing that cannot be put off. There are days when I forget, and spend the rest of the day worrying about the plants getting dehydrated. I keep taking about getting rid of the plants. Maybe I should. They are not essential, and I am trying to simplify my life.
But do I really want to do without their sunny smiles?

I used to have a lot of plants. Now there are only two. The joy s tll there when I see them and work with them so simplifying worked out ok for me.
Love that smiling plant in the picture.

@ Mary- that may be the solution to my problem too. I have far too many plants, and they take up too much time. Maybe I should get it down to just a few that I really care about, and which would not be as demanding.

You need not feel so guilty about not having the time. You can water the plants during the night, that way they will also retain a lot of moisture, and also you ask your kids and husband to help you with watering of the plants.
So when are leaving in a hurry to your office you can smile back at them, and maybe sing " don't worry, be merry"...

Rayna - That's an astonishing 'photo! Thank you for sharing. I know just exactly how you feel about doing chores and being busy, too. In the long run, I think we need to prioritise. If plants bring you joy and happiness, then the five minutes it takes to water them is worth it. But chores that don't improve your life? I don't like them much, either...

I had many plants and watering them became a chore to me too! I finally gave them all away. They no longer brought joy to my heart and I haven't missed them at all. Funny...they used to mean so much to me. Life is a continual change...a journey in process!!

That's why we have plastic plants!

Plants are always nice to look at-don't get rid of them if you really don't want to. :)

Plants can be time consuming, but where would we be without them? I agree with Mary, maybe just have fewer plants. But if you're like me it would be hard to select just a few. :) Good luck.

Perhaps share some of your plants with friends and family who are willing to care for them.

Can you get some of those pretty watering globe balls? Then you might only have to worry about refilling the watering globe when it needs to be filled. I don't know how long the water lasts in them.

@ Rama - I have now started doing just that (watering at night). When there are so many things to do in any case, a few more shouldn't matter.
Husband and kids can't really be trusted to do this.

@ Margot - thank you. Yes, the picture came out better than I actually expected it to.
I know my life would be less complete without my plants, but I need to know which is more- the pleasure or the tension.

@ Dorte - thank you

@ SueAnn- it is good to hear that. I keep thinking I will miss them if they are not there, but if you do not, maybe I wouldn't either.

@ Alex - makes sense.

@ Oddyoddyo13 - I dont' want to , but they are becoming a chore. Hard decision to make

@ Mason - last year, I decided to give away all but three of my favourite plants. That number kept increasing and I ended up keeping them all.

@ Diane - do you have cacti? Or does the hubby water them?

@ Al - astonishing, isn't it?

@ Ella - thank you. And yes, there is always a solution.

@ Susanne - I have thought about that. But for now, the plants are safe.
Never heard of watering globes- must check it out.
