New Creations Blogfest- Jan 5

A couple of days back, I happened to stumble across Summer Ross's "New Creations Blogfest". The rules were simple -
1)Pick one ending sentence from last years stories, your favorite one that you wrote. (Only one, and yes it has to be an ending sentence)

2) Write one brand new starting sentence for a story you have been thinking about, or something off the top of your head. But it must be your first sentence. (Yes only one, and yes it must be new.)

Now post your ending and brand new beginning sentence in one post on January 5th

The first part was easy, since there was only one story that I completed last year.

The second part was much more challenging. A couple of you know that I made a tentative resolution to finish one book before my 40th birthday in June, but that I could not decide on which of the four story ideas I had in my head to start work on first. In the course of thinking of my 'starting sentence', I think I have committed to one of them.

So here are my ending sentence from last year, and beginning sentence from this year-

"If you insist", she laughed. "Now have your breakfast. Then you can go out and play."
- ending sentences of "To the Moon, the first in The Magic Ladder Series" of children's books.

"And what is a good Tam Brahm girl like you doing piling tandoori chicken on her plate?"
- starting sentence of my untitled 'Romance at the Workplace' book, which may well turn into a Cozy set in an Investment Bank

So there you are. My two sentences.

And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Summer Rose. Thank you for making me do this.

How lovely are these! Sounds like the end of quite an adventure in the first and I am excited to read more of the second.

Both sentences are gripping and left me wanting more - a good sign!
I'm glad you seemed to have chosen your next writing project and can't wait to read more of your work.

Hi,

Both are intriguing as individual sentences, and lovely in separate context! ;)

Put together as one paragraph, they're quite funny. :o

And when do you write the story you've now started? I understand about the book thing (and you GO girlfriend!) but does a short story then get posted another day? I'm totally intrigued by this idea. And those two sentences together are so juicily delicious, I want more.

Great sentences! I just saw this meme on Clarissa´s blog and found two of my own:

His words ring in my ears and the woolly contraption has me in its clutches. The flat looked as if no one had opened the door since the 1920s.

Nice! hahah I'm tam brahm too. I like both of your sentences. =)

However by chance I found your blog, I am loving it. I am "old" school if you don't mind the pun and I am not actually sure what a blogfest is ... I wrote to two of my young writer friends for "explanations please"

I decided it sounded like fun and I entered a link and added the two sentences to today's post.

Thanks for the link and the great post. My daughter is a photographer finishing her BA, minor graphic art and has a photoblog also. Love your photographs.

What could the story be, where it end with a mother? telling her child to go out and play? I wonder?

The second sentence is a great teaser....

I enjoyed them both.

Hi!

I'm popping in from Summer's blogfest!

Last sentence: Wonderful dialogue - a sense of normalcy reigns at the end!

First sentence: Wow!!!!I love your dialogue - hints at complexities and conflicts to come!

Take care

Hello there, Rayna, nice to blog you!; )

last sentence: sounds like a fun kid's story! The protag must have had an exiting adventure that night!

first sentence: interesting - leaves me with lots of questions, which is GREAT for a first sentence. What's a Tam Brahm girl? Why is she a good one? And why is she piling tandoory chicken on her plate?

Hi Rayna
Your ending is so cute. I love the idea of a problem that can be solved before breakfast so the day can be full of all the fun a young child's should be.

Your opening line does draw the reader in - I found myself wondering a lot of things ;)

So I poked in to read your blog this morning having forgotten about the New Creation Blogfest (and having ruled it out honestly) but I was mulling something over this morning and your having chosen a story idea got me thinking that I needed to start fresh with something myself. So What better time than with the Blogfest! You have that gift, don't you?

Ooo I like both of these! The first sounds like a lovely ending, especially with the word 'play'! and the second sounds a very promising set up. :)

I love them, Rayna! Your Tandoori Chicken made my mouth water.

I love that this made you decide on your story to make into a book!

Love the last sentence of your children's story.

What a great exercise. I'm afraid, out of context, my sentences don't make much sense. But here's the first line from my current WIP:

I blame my death on swimmies.

@ Margo - thank you.

@ Ellie - more like the project choosing me ;-)

@ Margot - I have no idea when I am going to manage to write, but it is exciting to have a project choose you.

@ Barbara - thank you.

@ Pk - don't hold your breath- oxygen deprivation is not good for the body ;-)

@ kmckendry - thank you. And I better now continue.

@ Jules - thank you.

@ Summer - thank you for the blogfest, Summer. And Happy Birthday

@ Francine - they are funny put together, aren't they?

@ Melissa - thank you so much.

@ Tina - no time is really an excuse I hate, but when I keep avoiding making that excuse for everything, I am in trouble :-(

@ Dorte - I really love your sentences. And they work so well together too.

@ Priya - thank you. And the chicken reference would have made sense to you then.

@ Mara - thank you. The first is over and done. I like that you like the first line of the next.

@ February - and I am turning 40 a month after you- should be fun.

@ Florence - blogfest is when a lot of people do the same thing on their blog on the same day, and each visit the other and comment. It is fun.

@ Michael - thank you. The mother is me- always in a hurry and getting the kids off her hands, however ;-)

@ Alex - You have to really grow up between the two stories though.

@ L'Aussie - always a pity when you find a good blogfest late, isn't it?

@ Kitty - thank you, and thank you

@ Sash - Tam Brams are vegetarians, and 'good' Tam Brahms are not supposed to be eating chicken. I guess it is too contextual. Sorry.
Also a bit of a play on one of my favourite lines from Love Story.

@ Elaine - thank you. And yes, I like things to start on a clean slate too.

@ Danette - I am so glad you are starting something new. Well done for starting.

@ Jayne - thank you.

@ Clarissa - as it was meant to ;-)

@ Damyanti - now I need to keep adding the words.

@ Stephanie - nopes, I do need the context. But I would love to know what swimmies are.
