Who doesn’t want to be someone else?

She wished she could be a mermaid, if only for a day. So she could sit on a rock and watch the waves- song on her lips, wind in her hair. No house to keep clean, no hungry family to feed. What more could anyone want?

She wished she could be human, if only for a day. So she could wear six-inch stilettos and mini-skirts. So she could dance all night in the arms of the man she loved. So she could love and be loved in return. What more could anyone want?

Who doesn’t want to be someone else?

I love it! And isn't it true...the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Interesting twist.
And I'd still prefer to be myself.

So true - more often when we're young. Nicely written :)

I'd love to be a mermaid as I love to swim. Also, drabbles are so fun to write. I've done a few for fanfiction. I didn't think I'd like them, but it really is a great exercise for honing writing.

Nice! I've loved acting in plays, for the sheer pleasure of being someone else for a short while:)

@ Fiona - thank you

@ SueAnn - I so agree. Being someone else may be more exciting, but I am happy, and I don't want to trade happiness for anything else

@ Elizabeth - it always it. But I guess that is why we are writers - so we can explore the other side also

@ Alex - thanks. And so would I.

@ Jemi - thank you. Oh yes, youth is the time of dreams, none of which were ever likely to happen.

@ Mason - thanks. But I guess when it really comes to it, we would all choose to be just ourselves

@ Mary - me too- I feel a certain peace when I in the water that I do not anywhere else. And nothing like drabbles to hone your writing skills. If you can tell a story in 100 words, you can tell it in a hundred thousand

@ Michele - thank you

@ Jaydee - thank you

@ Gregg - neither would I want to be anyone else. And thanks for stopping by

@ dipali - Dramatics lets you be anyone, doesn't it. That's what I like most about it too.
