K for ..... Kite

This is a work of fiction and forms a part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I will attempt to write a new story based on the word for the day every day during the month of April.

Krishna would never forget that day. She had turned 9 and hadn’t been happy that all her favourite uncle gave her was a kite. He ruffled her hair and said, “Wait till I teach you to fly a kite!”
She watched while he tied the thread, checked the balance, and taught her to throw it so it could catch the breeze. Once the kite was in the air, her uncle passed the reel to Krishna. When she felt the kite tugging at it, she nearly dropped it in her excitement.

Her uncle was right. It was the best gift ever.

______

A Drabble is a story told in exactly 100 words.

I've never flown a kite. I read The Kite Runner a few years ago and it showed how popular it is for Afghanistan children to fly kites.

I flew a kite for the first time two months ago, on the eve of my Physics model exam. It was exhilarating.

This drabble reminded me how wonderful it felt as I watched the kite soar. I was laughing when I saw the visitors at the beach staring at me, probably thinking why a 16-year-old girl like me was flying a kite. But then, some things have no age limits, do they?

Sorry for the radio silence; I was away and had a lot of catching up to do. Loved your previous posts as well!

P.S. I wrote a drabble for 'F' as well, inspired by you :)

Oh I like all your drabbles. Must be hard to do exactly 100 words.

Natasha - I've not flown a kite for such a long time. This brings back that joy so beautifully!
