Dental woes- and a bit of luck

My root canal treated molar seemed jinxed. First the filling fell off, then a part of the tooth chipped away, and two days back, almost the entire tooth broke off. The dentist wanted to save the tooth, but an X-ray showed two pin tips embedded in the tooth. Sooner rather than later, they would have got infected and spread to the entire gum.

I had cursed my luck when my tooth fractured. But now I am glad it did- the problem was caught before it became one.

And I hope that after extraction, my dental problems come to an end.

Sometimes problems are a blessing in disguise, it's true.

Rayna - Oh, I know all about catching small problems before they become serious ones. You are fortunate they discovered those pin tips when they did. Sometimes what seems like bad luck is a favour in disguise...

I hate the dentist! But hey - no tooth, no more problems, right?

Ow, I can sooo relate. My root canal tooth was the worst tooth in the bunch. I have an implant now -- supposedly tricky, but so much better than constant infections before. Good luck!

I can tell you from experience that this is definitely a blessing in disguise that they found it out now.

Sorry you've been through so much, I hope you feel better soon!

goodness! That's a terrible story (well-written, of course!), and I'm so glad you're going to be fine. And now... ouch! :D <3

So your irritating pain saved you from far worse things. Guess that's one for the gratitude journal.

With all the problems I've had with dentistry, extraction is the only way for me now. I hope things work out all right in the end.

It sounds painful. Teeth things are the worst.

I'm so glad it turned out for the best!

Just the thought of extraction makes me cringe, but better that than an infection that causes all kinds of complication.

So did you get a crown? I shall have to get some old fillings fixed soon.

I don't know what pin tips are, but guess it's bad news. I had one done last year, and sincerely hope it lasts for many many years. Good luck with the extraction, much better than a bad infection.

Ouch! But good point that sometimes something that seems bad can end up preventing something worse from happening.

I'm glad you were able to catch the problem before it got worse! One of my teeth broke while on a trip and while I was really upset about it, had it not broken, I would never have known the entire tooth was dead and needed help!

@ Debra - absolutely. When it broke, I could have wept in frustration, but what if it hadn't?

@ Ella - tooth long gone, and it was scary.

@ Margot - absolutely. I shudder to think of what could have been otherwise.

@ Alex - much as I hate to say so, I have to agree.

@ Barbara - I was to have had an implant, I think, but the pin put an end to it. Tooth troubles are bad, but so are any other :-(

@ February - I am glad to hear that, though I am sad you had to find that out the hard way.

@ Leigh - ouch indeed. And just months after going through the time and expense of a root canal.

@ Mary - totally.

@ Clarissa - ouch. I am better now- though the tooth is numb.

@ Holly - any health problems are bad, I think.

@ Jemi - me too.

@ J.L. - thanks for the visit. And yes, painful though extraction is, it is good that it was caught when it was.

@ Sonia - I am lucky I did not get the crown done. Had I done so, the tooth would not have broken, and I would never have found out till after the infection set in.
Hope your woes are not as bad as mine.

@ Sue - I am pretty sure they would not have left any pin tips during your root canal- dentists would not dare do it, if they know they are going to be sued.

@ Elizabeth - totally. If the tooth has to go, it has to go. At least it is not taking others with it.

@ Jen - ouch. Never realised so many people had so many dental woes! And yes, if you look at it the right way, it is good if these things happen and help us catch things before they become much worse.
