Dance like Nobody is Watching

At a traffic light I saw her. A young girl dancing joyously to a tune only she could hear. A bright pink scarf thrown over her school uniform, she twirled gracefully dragging everything around her into her whirlpool of joy. If it were a movie, colours would have radiated from her form, painting the monochromatic scene in rainbow hues.

I watched mesmerized. So this was what joy looked like.

She sensed my eyes on her. Suddenly conscious, her movements lost their fluid grace. She was just another child.

I finally understood what it means to "Dance like Nobody is Watching".

Very lovely! This phrase "painting the monochromatic scene in rainbow hues" is quite lyrical and the picture is almost does not do it justice.

I love this! I can only dance like nobody's watching when nobody is watching. You really captured the abandon with your words of whirlpool, radiated and painting. Thanks for letting me see through your eyes and for her allowing herself a moment of sheer joy.

If only we could all dance with joy whenever we felt like it!

Rayna - What a lovely Drabble! And how eloquent a reminder that we all have joy inside us. It's a question of listening to that inner music and dancing to it. Children are so good at tuning in to that music.... I wonder how adults so easily lose it...

ah, your writing is like dancing too!

And kids seem to show joy with so much less self-consciousness than we do.

That is the best feeling in the world. Funnily, our next 3-way is going to be just this idea. And we're going to do it for you too ;)

@ Danette- thank you. I wrote it as I saw it, and I really did see it that way. The picture just doesn't do justice, I know. That moment was sheer Magic.

@ Tricia- thank you. It was such a magical moment, I am glad I was able to share it with you. I know that when I need perking up, I just have to think about her, and I will be filled with joy again.

@ Debra- wouldn't that be wonderful?

@ Margot- many adults seem to be able to do so too, and not all kids enjoy the moment. I think it is all about retaining that element in your that allows you to experience joy.
The best part was it that it was outside a shanty- proves that joy has nothing to do with physical riches.

@ Karen- thank you so much. I am not much of a dancer, so you can imagine how glorious it must have been for it to have that kind of impression on me.

@ Jan- thank you so much.

@ Elizabeth- they do, don't they? And some more than others.

@ Leigh- thank you. If you could catch even a bit of her joy, I am happy.

@ Sue- thank you. I am glad I was able to capture some of it.

@ Ella- it was glorious. Really glorious.

@ Al- thank you.

@ Fiona - thank you. Capturing it in words was easy. The picture is not of her- it is of another lovely lady I saw the same day.

@ Barbara- I do so look forward to reading your next three way. And the one after is with me, isn't it?

@ Dorte - pink again. It is fast becoming my favourite colour.
