Boy Meets Girl

Boy meets girl. They fall in love. They want to get married. Their families object. Society tries to pull them apart. Their plans to run away fail. She consumes poison. He shoots himself. She's taken to hospital, but gives up the fight. In an afterlife, they are perhaps united.
A tragedy from Shakespearian times? No, it happened yesterday in India. The Hindu boy and the Muslim girl decided to end their lives to coincide Valentine's Day.

Instead of trying to ban people from celebrating Valentine's Day, why can't politicians try to change society, so lables cease to have any meaning.

Rayna - What a sad, sad story! How heartbreakingly ironic that society is composed of people, yet far too often forgets that its members are....people.

That is so sad!

A tragic tale, especially when it's real life and not just Shakespeare. May they both rest in peace now.

Such a tragedy! And so bad that forbidden love is still happening today.

The darker side of love, how very sad to be punished for having the heart to see past a label.

omg, Rayna! That's a terrible story. :o\ it is Shakespearean, and it's sad that these two couldn't find any other way to be together. xoxo <3

Prejudice is so wrong.

What a sad story. I wonder when will we learn to let people be with the ones they love and live in peace and happiness.

How sad! If only the government could learn the same lesson that the Capulets and Montagues did: that love should unite, not divide.

So sad, makes my heart hurt. The tragedy of young love and all the
misunderstandings.

I hope your Valentine's Day has moments of sweetness~

Wow--so sad that they felt they'd rather die than move to change things.

That's terrible. And it angers me to think that people can't move to see past labels. To think that these two young people could have lived life together IF "the powers that be" could stop battling for meaningless power.

@ Margot- it is so sad isn't it? Does religion even matter all that much when two people care for each other?

@ Diane- tragic, isn't it?

@ Debra- to think that still happens in this modern day and age. I cringe to even think of it.

@ Elizabeth- I know people who got married against the wishes of their parents, and others who broke up because of that, but this is beyond terrible.

@ Mary - incredibly sad, isn't it?

@ Leigh- hard to believe this can actually happen in this day and age, isn't it?

@ Alex- totally, utterly, completely.

@ Jane - I hope soon. It is such a waste otherwise, and so pointless.

@ Fiona - but if the government doesn't divide, how will they stay in power?

@ Barbara- tragic waste, isn't it?

@ Ella- thank you. And yes, so very sad.

@ Hart - that is the easy way out. Fighting is hard, very hard. Even if stubborn people like you and me don't think so.

@ Jen- absolutely. If they truely cared for each other, they would have found a way to work around the families. In fact, the girl would probably have been a better daughter in law than others, becuase she would have gone out of her way to please her parents in law. Waste.
