Thank you, for making me a Mother

You are no longer a little boy. At seven you are already going through an angst I didn't know even in my teens. I know the world confuses you. I know you are often not sure of your place in the grand scheme of things. I know you seek answers to questions that I wish I could shield you from. I know you have already faced betrayal and been the focus of jealousy.

I know close you came to rebelling. And I am proud of you for remaining true to who you are.

I love you, Young Man.

Happy Birthday!

Rayna - What a lovely, lovely Drabble! Our children do so often face things we wish we could protect them from. They struggle for answers, they have to sort out the world, and the best we can sometimes do is be there while they do it. You are such a wonderful mother, and your son is a lucky boy! Happy birthday to him! I haven't forgotten I owe him a Pizza Hut dinner :-).

Beautiful photo! We can't protect our kids from the world - no matter how much we want to - but we can give them the confidence and tools to deal with it. I think he is well on his way...

Happy Birthday!

It's so true that the children today are experience so much earlier that we did as kids. It’s nice to hear your little one is trying holding on to his true self.

What a lovely, almost pensive photograph! God bless your son on this birthday with all the good things a seven year old will cherish and enjoy! And God bless his wonderful mother:)

I'm thinking of when I last you--at your wedding. And now you are the mom of a seven-year-old. Wow! Happy birthday to your little dude!
Btw, I'm in India this Dec--any chance you're in Chennai on work?

He is such a darling boy. Your drabble brought tears to my eyes because it made me think of my boys when they were that young and so innocent and sweet. Now they're grown men, and very dear, but I miss the little boys they used to be.

Rayna, you have captured the moment, and the looks, with equally beautiful words. Happy Birthday to your young man!

@ Margot- thank you so much. Two days before his birthday, my son gave me a birthday present- he asked to talk to me, and spoke for nearly two hours. As long as he keeps doing that, I know he will be fine.

@ Debra- thank you.

@ Fiona - I guess that is the best we can do- equip them to face the world.
He's dealt with a lot, and come out stronger.

@ Vicki- thank you

@ Oddyoddyo13 - thank you

@ Tricia - thank you

@ Holly- they are jsut exposed to so much more so much earlier. But I guess it is also good in a way.

@ Mason- thank you. He is going through a lot, but I do think he will pull through.

@ Barbara- thank you

@ dipali- somehow, in most pictures, that wistful expression creeps in. Wonder why

@ Clarissa- I really should print them out, shouldn't I?

@ niranjana- and there were six years between the two. Time does fly, Niru.
Don't travel much on work- you aren't going to be passing through Bombay, are you?

@ Danette- congratulations. And wish him from me.

@ Jemi- thank you

@ Patricia- I guess mothers never change. We always wish the kids were younger than they are, so we can protect them.

@ Grandpa- thank you
