Lenticular images

Remember those lenticular images you played with as a child? You know, those cards with a ridged surface where you saw one image when you looked at it full on, and a completely different image when you changed the angle of view. Do you remember the hours spent in alternately looking at the two images and trying to see if you could perhaps find a third image hidden somewhere?

Many years later, I discovered that most good writing was nothing more or less than a succession of lenticular images. But they went by a different name; they were called PoV.
_____
A drabble is a story told in exactly 100 words.

I was at Burrowers, Books & Balderdash yesterday, rambling on about PoVs and lenticular images. Do drop by if you have the time.

When I was a kid, we always called lenticular images "wiggle cards." Actually, I just learned the term "lenticular" recently (better late than never). For years I have collected religious wiggle pictures. Most are inherently tacky or funny or both, but they all do have an underlying reverence for the spirituality they depict.

I forgot those little cards. I didn't even know they had a name!

Clever analogy, Rayna.

Rayna - I hadn't thought of those cards for such a long time! Thanks for the reminder : ) : ). And you're right; that's exactly what point of view is. What a great analogy!

Very clever, Rayna!

Ah, brilliant observation and great point...of view. I loved those things as a child but what one sees and another are different.

oh, I forgot those - this is brilliant. yes, exactly. and if your pov is too wiggly no image arises!

You nailed that one. Just go to a literature class at any College and listen to them discuss the writer's true meaning on a story.
I sometimes wonder if the writers ever knew how their stories would be dissected.

Great analogy! And so true.

I love the analogy about the POV, never thought of it like that before...but now that I do, i like it.

Love that last observation... life is a long series of other people's points of view!

@ Debra- "wiggle cards"! What a great name. I heard the word only on Monday. And yes, I too have seen religious art on them- if I come across any, I will be sure to pick them up for you.

@ Stephanie- neither did I till this Monday

@ Alex- thank you.

@ Margot- thank you. I came across them at a kid's party the other day, and immediately thought of PoV

@ Mary- thank you

@ Clarissa- they are totally different, aren't they?

@ RosieC- thank you

@ Jan- that too, yes

@ Theres just life- I am sure not. If people think as much as we credit them with thinking, they would go quite mad.

@ Elizabeth- thank you

@ Damyanti- thank you

@ ladyfi- that it is
