A few moments of peace

The mail that should have been sent off an hour ago mocking me.
"Mamma, he is kicking me." "No, Mamma, HE is kicking ME."
A friend on the phone- it has been 43 minutes and still no sign of hanging up.
The TV blaring in the living room- a spider and two ants watching.
Beeps on the phone- is that a client or a telemarketer? You can't check, because you haven't yet figured out how to use call waiting yet.
"Mamma, potty." Will they ever lean to clean up?

What would I not do for a few moments of peace?
_____

A drabble is a story told in exactly 100 words.

And as a perfect counterpoint to this mad rant, I also have a Delusional Thursday post up at Burrowers, Books & Balderdash. Hop across if you are sure you want to find out whether or not Lord Voldemort was a Virgin.

Yikes! I hear you - lately I've been feeling I JUST NEED SOME TIME! Argh!

Rayna - You convey so eloquently what it's like to be an adult with a lot of responsibility. Sometimes, we all just want to drop our cares, just for a bit. And I think your excellent Drabble also speaks to the fact that modern life is full of too much stimulus. We are bombarded by so much these days that no wonder our nerves get frayed.

There are just those days. I hope that they are few and far between, but I fear with children they are not.

Those darn insects will watch TV 24/7 if you let them.

Very true and very funny but someday you will wish you had it back. Believe me.

I hide in my office and close the door!

I used to lock myself in the toilet for some peace and quiet... or go out with the dog.

I sure could go for some peace about now...in fact that's what I blogged about for today, too. Headed over to check out your other blog!

Yikes. My heart is racing now and I feel stressed. Um ... nope. You're just such a good writer that you made me feel I was you ;o)

Don’t forget about my CONTEST!

It's easier as they get older! Well, different stresses, but generally easier :)

I have been adding more tasks to my already full schedule and I know with no peace and quiet in my house, it's coming back to bite me.

Oh dear!! Definitely a full rich life. I must admit that I am the lucky one...no kids at home and husband at work all day!! I have an abundance of peace!! And I love it!

You have expressed the harried life of a mother well. Now fathers--that's a whole different situation--we often tend to be oblivious to it all.

My mom defines this as multi-tasking. :) Hope you find that moment.

@ Talli- hope you get some time off soon

@ Margot- you said it- there is just too much stimulus. I am not saying life was easier for our mothers, but they didn't have call waiting to deal with.

@ Holly- with kids they are only too common :-( And on most days, it is something we can cope with.

@ Debra- they will do anything they are allowed to do, wouldn't they?

@ Mary- I would probably miss my kids at this age when they grow up, but the rest of it, not likely

@ Alex- I do not have an office with a door :-(

@ Fiona - and leave the mobile behind- that is a thought

@ Tina- the life of a mother, who also has to juggle other roles

@ Jessica- oh thank you!

@ Diane- I am not sure it exists, but if it does, will definitely let you know

@ Jemi- but does the phone stop ringing? And the other side is that, I often give them as a reason to escape.

@ Clarissa- oops!

@ Julie- busted! *hides face*

@ SueAnn - and do you miss not having the noise?

@ Lee- fathers do get less stressed, I think. At least the father of my kids doesn't get anywhere near as stressed as I do.

@ Theres just life- I did, and am alive to tell the tale.

@ Jules- mothers can write the definitive book on multi-tasking
