Puddle-fun

“When it next rains, let’s play in the puddles”, I told my kids.
“But there are thousands of germs in the puddle”, replied my four year old. “When I step in the puddle, it will go into my mouth and make me sick.”
“If you keep your mouth shut the germs cannot go in”, I tried to reason, but he was having none of it. His teacher had told him to stay away from puddles and he was going to do so.
I despaired of ever having puddle-fun with him.

Till it rained, and we stepped out in our raincoats.

Adorable! I was bemoaning his too-young self-imposed restraints and a mother's lack of power against the word of the teacher. And then...reality! Love it.

That is such a great photo, Rayna!! Don't you love how children can change their minds so quickly?! :-)

God bless you Rayna!

Oh, the story - and photo - are both so cute! You should send this out. :)

And I've never heard of a drabble before - I love when I learn something new. Great post!

We're fans of the puddle play, too. Nice drabble!

That is so cute and I have to say (and I've said this many times before, you're an amazing photographer.)

Love the story.

I just LOVE your boys.

I've always been a puddle-stomper. My fave part of camping with the kids when they were little was going out to play in the rain :)

Such a cute picture and a cute story of your boys. Boys were meant to splash in puddles. I'm glad they listened to their mother over their teacher. :o)

@ Southpaw - kids are like that, aren't they. Can't resist temptation, specially if it comes from the mother.

@ RA - thank you so much. I personally think the puddles are much nicer, but will happily accept your compliment.

@ Yvonne- thank you

@ Barbara - as was I, when he had been telling me about his decision all last week.

@ Karen - thank you

@ Shannon - when it suits me, yes. But often, they do it in a manner that annoys me ;-)

@ Trudy - a couple of months, and you will be having puddle fun with Benjamin.

@ Guinevere - thank you. And we have an entire website dedicated to drabbles if you are interested- http://the-burrow.org/

@ Tina - it is the best possible fun, isn't it?

@ Clarissa - thank you so much. But in this case, all I did was try to keep the camera from getting wet.

@ Alex - you don't know what you missed out on. Come to think of it, my mother didn't let me play in the rain either. Maybe that is why I am doing it now.

@ Mason - thank you

@ Jane - why don't you. Or maybe I should say, did you?

@ Marjorie - thank you.

@ Jemi - I am not sure I would like getting wet when I am camping. Part of the fun is knowing I can get dry pretty soon after.

@ Jackee- thank you. And yes! The one thing I would hate to do is to pull rank on their teacher- luckily I didn;t have to

@ Tabitha- drabbles are brilliant. Am actually working on a kid's book in drabbles. Let's see how it works out.

@ SueAnn - it is fun, isn't it?

I'm so glad! I wouldn't mind splashing in a puddle or two myself, as long as I had a kid around :)

Ha! What fun! I never thought about germs getting into my mouth from splashing, but glad you got him past it!

Fun with mommy wins. I love that!

Splashing in puddles has to be one of the top five most fun childhood experiences. Maybe for grown-ups too.

Natasha said...

@ dipali - having a kid around helps, doesn't it?

@ ritu - why don't you? Grab a couple of kids, and do it.

@ Faith - that is what the teachers had told them, and in a way, the teachers are right. While germs may not quite go in that way, puddles are not exactly conducive to good health. But who care? Fun is important too.

@ Patricia - when I was a kid, my mother rarely let me jump in puddles. I guess I am reliving the childhood experience I didn't have.
