Alot of Writing

First of June, and if you are participating in the BuNoWriMo challenge, it is time to gear yourself for writing Alot.
I’m (hopefully) winding up at my job this month, so what with ensuring that all the systems that I was handling are properly codified so they can work without me, and with handing over my multifold responsibilities to a multitude of people, and doing what I am paid to do, I know I am going to be stretched to the point of breaking. School also reopens this week, which means extra effort on the home-front till routines are set and coping mechanisms put in place.

Which means unless I am successful in locating a Time-Turner, I should not even attempt the BuNoWriMo challenge. Which is why I am wearing the “Rebel- and proud of it” BuNoWriMo badge. I’m going to participate, but on my terms - 30 drabbles in 30 days.
But if you would like to participate in the real stuff, or just hang out with some really cool people, there is still time to join up.

All you need to do is to request to join our Facebook group. Members can even request Joris to customize the BuNoWriMo logo in their favourite colours. Not only has Joris designed the logo, he's also created all the other cool graphics on this post.

It is going to be Alot of fun, and Alot of Writing.

Which brings me to Alot. I wish I could claim to be the person who invented Alot, but unless I am being truly dishonest, I can’t. Allie is the genius who came up with Alot. As a grammatically conscientious person, she has been forced to develop coping mechanisms to deal with what is passed on in the name of faster communication. When someone takes the phrase “a lot”, and condenses it into one word, “a lot”, she imagines the creature, “Alot". “Alot" is a cross between a bear, a yak and a pug, and it helps her deal with her compulsive need to correct other people’s grammar. Read all about Alot and more at Hyperbole and a Half.

No wonder we have unofficially adopted “Alot" as our mascot.

Happy writing.

Great mascot and happy writing!

I was wondering about your mascot - I thought it was a buffalo! OK - we'll both have our heads down for the next little while - I start 49 days of revision today. I'm all set and psyched. I'll check in here and there but might not be so quick to comment! We can be patient with each other....

Have fun writing "Alot" - I'm a binge writer myself. Well, I write SOMEthing like every day - blog posts, one or two thousand words in one of my WIP's, but when I get in the blessed "writer's zone" I write furiously and non-stop. My las ms that I just finished a few weeks ago is 84,000+ words and I wrote it in three weeks. Love it when that happens!

Ooh, Alot sounds awesome! Good luck with the writing; I am also trying to do way too much in the next couple of days. WE CAN DO IT!

Love the graphics! And I'm going to borrow Alot for my classroom - I always tell the kids I will hunt them down forever if I hear of them ever writing a lot as 1 word. They'll love it :)

Hadn't heard of bunowrimo. I'm still trying to tie up the loose ends on my novel from nanowrimo last November.

Hey Rayna, you seem to have disabled your comments on your latest post. Enable them so I can come back and comment! :)

I'm with AA - I can't comment on your last post. :(

I love all these mascots, though!

@ Fiona - should be made the mandatory mascot of all writer's shouldn't he?

@ Christine - thank you. Adopt him of you like.

@ Jan - all the best with your revision. One day, I must sit down and revise my book, but before that, there is another stupid one which I want to get out of my head.

@ Yvonne - thanks

@ Clarissa - thank you. And wishing you a great month of writing too.

@ Jaydee - when I first read it, I had to nod and nod and nod some more.

@ Marvin - that blessed zone. What would we be without it. Unfortunately, I have kids to feed, and a job that is so needy.

@ Saumya - Alot is awesome.

@ Alex - I think I am still discovering what my way is ;-)

@ Jemi - this is perfect for kids. Only problem is that they may well fall in love with Alot, and not let him go.

@ Lee - I am still struggling to come to terms with my NaNoWriMo thing.

@ Jessica - thanks for letting me know.

@ Talli - thanks for letting me know, and they are great, aren't they?
