“Mamma, why do my classmates hate me?”, Jai sobbed. “I haven’t
done anything to them.”
Her mother held her close, as only a mother can, and waited till
the tears died down. “They hate you, because they envy you”, she explained as
gently as I could.
“But why should they envy me? Yes, I am good at studies and
dramatics, but there are so many things they do better than me.”
“They envy you, because you do well in all the things that
matter to you.”
She never forgot that lesson. Flattery can be bought, but
envy must be earned.

Interesting that Nancy Thompson also wrote on Jealousy and the differences between that and Envy. It is easy to comingle those terms I think.
Nice post, Natasha

Nothing like some well earned envy! But it sure hurts.

Natasha - I've always thought that the most envious people are those who aren't at peace with themselves. You really express this beautifully.
A great theme and good to read.
Yvonne.
