Four Seasons: day 38 of #100happydays

I often dream of living in a place where there are four seasons. A snow-covered Winter Wonderland. Crocus blossoms heralding the advent of Spring. Warm Summers, giving way to the Reds and Golds of Autumn.
Reality is different. The four seasons that we have are Hot, Hotter, Hottest and Wet. Not much variety, unfortunately.
But it is precisely because we don’t have real seasons that we have an experience uniquely our own. Leaves turning red on one tree, barren branches on another, new shoots on a third. All the seasons in one orderly row of trees. The cycle of life.

Setting Curds: day 37 of #100happydays

“Can you teach me to set curds?”, asked the Younger One.
After heating the milk, and adding the starter, he even make a pretty note to place on top of the bowl where the curds were setting- “Do Not Touch. Curds being Made.”
Since he thought overnight was too long a period for him to wait for the curds to set, he wanted to try something new. “What if we mix some strawberries into the milk before setting the curds, will we get strawberry curds?”, he asked.
There was only one way to find out- by doing it. We did!

Girls on Bikes: day 31 of #100happydays

Up the street on peddling feet, there we went,
Us friends three.
On borrowed bikes, some small, some high,
Off we set before daylight.

The last time I pedaled on a busy road, was
More than three decades ago.
Did that deter us?
Not at all, oh no.

I never learnt how to handle gears, and this
Was certainly not the time to learn.
On we went using only brute strength,
And the desire to have fun.

Wheeling the bikes out was an impulsive thing,
The fun we had was great.
Up the street on peddling feet, there we went.

Reading together: Day 27 of #100happydays

When I was young, I used to dream of living in a house made of books. Walls made of books, instead of bricks. Books stacked one over the other to form furniture. Books everywhere!
By the time I got a house of my own, I realized how impractical the dream was. Stacks of books have a tendency to fall over, and how do you pull out a book from the wall? The dream faded.
But now, I have something even better. I have a house of readers. Each of us happiest when lost in our own worlds- united by words!

Waiting for the Sun- Day 19 of #100happy days

The hubby had an early morning flight to catch, and after seeing him off, I made myself a steaming mug of coffee, and curled up with a good book, intending to watch the sun rise. I finished the mug, and another, but the sun was nowhere in sight. There was a light drizzle. It was a beautiful winter day - a wrap yourself in a woolen shawl kind of day- one we dream of but rarely get in Bombay.
I wished the morning could last forever.
And yet, I worry. About climate change and where it will eventually lead us.
