Do The Right Thing

 

“Madam, look. We now have paper straws”, the waiter at my favourite coffee shop told me excitedly. I gave him a quizzical look, because I wasn’t sure how he expected me to consume my double expresso using a straw.

He must have seen my look, because he explained that the last time I was at the restaurant, the owner had been around and had seen me say “No straws please’”. She remembered that interaction, did a bit of research and decided to replace the plastic straws with paper ones at all the establishments she ran.

Things like this do not happen often, but when they do, they remind you to keep speaking up about what is important to you. Sometimes, people hear and act.
