"You are quite a workaholic aren't you", my colleague asked. "No way", I reacted immediately. "There was a time when I was, but no longer. I work hard to achieve a work-life balance, and I think I am succeeding." Her smile told me she was not convinced.
But then I thought about it. I do spend a disproportionate amount of time thinking about work. My work creeps into my personal blog, and into my interactions with other people. That's not work-life balance, is it?
I thought some more. I love what I do- so what if I am a workaholic?

When we love what we do we sometimes don't realize that it is indeed work.
The happiness shows in this picture.
I'm a workaholic but I try to include my son in my work so that I feel less guilt. My son and I do lots together.

Rayna - You have probably achieved a better balance than you may think. If we truly reflect on what we love to do, and do it, I think we are fulfilling our purpose. You're focusing on what your own purposes are, and that is what completes you. I'm happy for you, actually, and the world is better for you.
I had a colleague call me a workaholic once simply because I worked and put in extra effort while I was at work. I always thought that was so funny.
I love wine -- so what if I'm an alcoholic? Love has nothing to do with it.
I'm like you--work hard to achieve a balance. And then I read a book that said if you work is helping others/making others' lives better, aren't you providing a service? So I guess in some cases "workaholic" can be a good thing~ :o)
As long as family doesn't suffer, work away!
I thought if you loved what you did it didn't count as work. :)
You are happy, you are fulfilled - work on - that's you!
We are, after all, what we do.
I've been accused of that...
I love this post and picture. Having the opportunity to work with children is clearly the best part of my job!
It is so good that your work is something you love. Rich blessings!

I think that is the secret to success--if you love what you do, then you WANT to do it, which means you can be happy much more of the time.
@ Mary- that is the way it normally is, isn't it?
@ Clarissa- that is a good way of managing both.
@ Margot- thank you. Yes, the way I see it, the work I do completes me, so even if I am thinking about it more than I should, it doesn't really matter. And what I am looking for is not a bonus or an increment- it is satisfaction.
@ Holly- funny how some people use it almsot as an insult when it is anything but.
@ Debra- point ;-)
@ Leigh- I guess the best thing is to avoid lables, and just do what you want to do.
@ Alex- I do hope they do not.
@ Oddyoddyo13- and I quite agree.
@ Grandpa- absolutely.
@ Diane- and perhaps with reason, but if you love what you do....
@ kmckendry- working with kids is one of the most enriching things, isn't it?
@ SueAnn- I am lucky.
But then it was my choice to work where I am paid a quarter of what I would in another job.
@ Hart- totally. And isn't that great.
