Sibling Love

Lest yesterday's post made it seem like it heaven all the way, here is the real picture of bringing up two boys under the age of 7.

They seem to fight all day long.
"Whatever I want, why do you want?"
"Mamma, he has taken my pencil."
"Why are you kicking me, haan?"
"He hit me." "No, he kicked me first." "But he was not letting me sit on the sofa"
"I don't want to watch this channel." "But I want to watch."

There are times when I worry that one of them will get hurt. There are times when I wonder if they will ever learn to get along.

But when either is upset, the other is at his side.

What I never had. Sibling love.

  1. Lovely shot! It's a siblings job to fight with the others... that's how they learn to argue, reason, accept defeat and triumph, to be kind, to share...

  2. Two little boys make lots of noise- there was a beautiful poem about that in one of the old Target magazines.
It ended with a very poignant line:
One little boy is a lonely boy.

The photograph is just lovely! Sleeping kids are adorable, but not if they are like my youngest- very very difficult to wake up! Even now that he's almost twenty one- he's a pukka Kumbhakarn!

  3. They look so angelic when they're asleep!

  4. It’s true they can bicker and irritate each other but they take care of each other too. They look so sweet.

  5. Rayna - What a lovely, lovely 'photo! And yes, sibling love is a very, very special thing, isn't it? Your drabble explains it all so beautifully, as always :-).

  7. argh! I almost couldn't read it!!! That's SO my house.

But look at that picture. Reminds me of my g'mom babysitting my little cousin once. She was napping, and g'mom says, "Oh, look. Isn't she an angel? DON'T WAKE HER UP!" ~LOL! :D <3

  9. I was an only kid, so no chance for sibling love. Sweet picture!

  10. Another thought-provoking drabble. I have two sisters and two brothers, and no matter what I thought about them forty years ago, I wouldn´t trade any of them for a million pounds today.

  11. Rayna. This is SO cute. Reminds me of my childhood, fighting with my brother. But at the end of the day, we both are very close and really care about one another.

  12. Boys will be boys! Mine are always bickering...and conspiring. They know all the buttons to push around here. Sigh. But there's no substitute for a sibling.

  13. What did you bribe them with to let you take that picture? ;)

  14. In my experience girls are just the same. Bicker, bicker until something bad happens than they are all about backing each other up.

  17. @ Fiona - not having had a sibling myself, I am only now realising all of that.

@ Dipali - growign up, I am not sure if I was a lonely child, but I do know I would not have wanted only one child myself.
My kids are relatively easy to wake up- it takes me about 10 mintues in the morning.

    @ Debra - they do, don't they?

@ Holly - and when they are asleep, they also look very similar.

@ Margot - thank you so much. And yes, I can see it is very special, and it only grows stronger every day.

@ Alex - my husband has a brother too, and he doesn't seem to have got much sibling love either. Wonder how that happens?

@ Leigh- lol. But our kids are the same age, after all.
And that describes my two too.

    @ Boonie - thank you

@ Diane - I missed out on it too :-(

@ Dorte - thank you. Isn't that marvellous. I do hope my kids grow up as close.

@ Priya - that is the best part of having a sibling, I guess. Someone you can really trust.

@ Carolyn - tell me about the buttons!!! And yes, your kids look not unlike mine in the personality department.

@ Oddyoddyo13 - waited till they went to sleep ;-)

@ Al - you described it best!

@ Medeia - I guess they love that too.

    @ SueAnn- isn't that marvellous?

  18. Only children often have a very very rich interior life of their own!
I do enjoy watching the utterly physical playfulness of young boys and puppies:)

  19. Dipali- that they do- at least, I did. I have imaginary worlds within imaginary worlds, and each is as meticulously detailed as the real one.
BUT, both my kids have those worlds too.
