On Me and the Middle Ages

As I approach the "dreaded" Four Oh, I can't help but reflect on the last four decades of my life. When I stand aside and look at snapshots of me taken at five year intervals, I am struck by two things. At no stage could I have ever predicted who I would become in the next five years. And at every stage I was happy being who I was.


Which only means I was born under a lucky star. Lucky for leading an interesting and enriching life. But more importantly, lucky because I have it in me to be happy.

I am also doing a three-way with the Awesome Deb and Barbara at The Middle Ages. If Middle Age means growing to be like them, I can't wait!!!

    Very true. The part about not being able to predict who you become in the next 5 years. I wonder if we would behave differently if we could?

    Being able to be happy at any age is truly a gift that you do seem to have. You also share that wonderful gift with others.

    I enjoyed the transition into my 40s. However, 50 is now closer than 40...What I've noticed most is my body really starting to show the wear and tear I put on it these last 46 years. I like what you said about having it in you to be happy being you. I think that speaks to the whole contentment issue I wrote about for C.

    I'm 57. Pretty sure. I usually have to do the math, but I'm tired. Every one of my peers thinks of herself as middle-aged. So look what else you have to look forward to: divine delusion.
