I Went to China

"What did you do during the holidays?"
"I went to China!"
[to me]"You went to China and never even told me?"
"I had fun in China."
"What did you do there?"
"I learnt kung fu and I played with the pandas!"
"And Mamma let you do that?"
"I didn't go with Mamma, I went with Lalit*."
"Who is Lalit?"
"My best friend. In school. He is a kid, like me."
[to me]"How could you allow such a young kid to go to China alone."

Should I smile at the gullibility of adults, or admire the imagination of my five-year old?

  1. Rayna - What a wonderful imagination your son has! Oh, and I just adore that 'photo! How funny that that innocent face took in an adult. That's just a great story :-).

  2. Enjoy the imaginings of a five-year old. I think it’s fantastic how kids can go anywhere without living home.

Imagination - the cheapest, safest way to travel.

  7. @ Margot - he does, doesn't he? And it is precisely because that face looks so innocent that people get fooled all the time.

@ Jane - not just kids. At 39, I travel without leaving home all the time.

@ Elizabeth - world traveller already

    @ Dorte - I should, shouldn't I?

@ Alex - guess I should do just that.

    @ Mary - I can go on my own, can't I?
What we would do without imaginations I do not know.

@ Jemi - lucky are the people who have kids around them. Taxing, challenging, but also amazing.

@ Julie - unless you include an older person's imagination which is still maintained at the five year old's level

@ Medeia - it must have been. But I am sure it is still there, somewhere.

  10. @ Jen - I totally agree with you. If people are as literal as that, they deserve what they get.
