Sometimes, a seed makes it way to your pot, and before you know it, you have a sapling you can do without. You don’t have the heart to pull it out- after all, the plant is not a weed, and you find it hard to declare war even on weeds. You water it grudgingly, curse it a lot. When it sheds its leaves and shrivels up, you rejoice- no more watering a plant you don’t want.
Then it lets out a new shoot, and another. Unwillingly, you rejoice. The plant is a fighter, and you are fighting by its side.
