Portrait # 4 - Flower Vendor

Though I rarely wear flowers in my hair, I often buy these jasmine strands just so I can soak in the fragrance. If I keep a couple of them beside my pillow at night, I can be assured of great dreams.
Strangely, most of the vendors of these very feminine of things are men!

  1. The flowers are pretty, and they smell good too, but I couldn't imagine keeping them close to my bed at night - I would get a headache from a scent that intense!
The picture is interesting (as always). What's that he's doing with his hand? He looks almost ready to do a pirouette ;)
Also - I love your new profile pic. Another masterpiece by one of your young masters?

  2. Maybe the men just want to be sure their women smell nice!

  3. I like this too! Perhaps he is saying with his hand "oh no, not another photo - I want to make a sale lady!" The flowers are so gorgeous and he is so business - nice contrast.

  4. @ Mari - I grew up with these flowers, which is perhaps why I love them so much. The smell can be overpowering, but for me it is a nice overpowering.
And I wish I knew what he was doing with his hands - he kept it that way, but I don't know why.
And no, this pic is by the hubby.

    @ Diane - that's a possibility!

@ Jan - not that for sure. He loved the idea of his photograph being taken, and insisted on posing for me. That's his idea of a pose, I guess.

  5. I didn't know you could do that with those flowers...I should do that. Also, I love the clothes in the background. Do you call them saris?

  6. @ Ann - yes, most of them are sarees, the rest are 'ghagara cholis'. Sarees are unstitched garments that you drape around yourself, ghagara cholis are stitched. That's the essential difference.
